Crustaceans

چکیده
between species, but between different segments on the same animal. They have limbs specially adapted for walking, eating, grooming, swimming, mating, sensing the surrounding environment, brooding young, spearing prey, scraping surfaces and even snapping to make noise. Lobsters provide a good example of the limb diversity that can exist on even a single individual — the thoracic and abdominal appendages include maxillipeds (thoracic legs adapted for feeding), walking legs, swimming legs, genital appendages, and specialized grasping claws. One of the most highly specialized limbs among all the crustaceans is the raptorial appendage of the mantis shrimps (stomatopods), which can be deployed in as little as 2 milliseconds to club or spear prey. The force of the strike can even break the glass walls of an aquarium or the finger bones of a fisherman unlucky enough to have caught one of these animals. Crustaceans

The present study was carried out to determine the Decapod Crustaceans fauna in association with Sarcotragus muscarum Schmidt, 1864 from the Levantine Sea coasts of Turkey studied between 13 September 2005 and 07 October 2005. As a result of the present study, a total of 711 specimens belonging to 12 decapod species were identified. Among the species determined, Synalpheus gambaroloides (Nardo,...

متن کاملBiomineralizations: insights and prospects from crustaceans
For growing, crustaceans have to molt cyclically because of the presence of a rigid exoskeleton. Most of the crustaceans harden their cuticle not only by sclerotization, like all the arthropods, but also by calcification. All the physiology of crustaceans, including the calcification process, is then linked to molting cycles. This means for these animals to find regularly a source of calcium io...
متن کاملWhite spot syndrome virus infection: Threat to crustacean biodiversity in Vembanad Lake, India
The Vembanad Lake located on the south-west coast of India, an ecological hotspot is the nursing ground of many economically important crustaceans. The prevalence of white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) among crustaceans from farmed, estuarine and marine environments surrounding the Vembanad Lake, India was detected using PCR. A total of 308 samples from aquaculture ponds consisting of six species ...
